Linda's view

PALS worker Linda Chapple"I work for PALS, the patient advice and liaison service. I help to resolve concerns and complaints, acting as a link between patients and their relatives and the clinical staff.

"The work can be stressful, but there is always a great support from my team. It is very stimulating work, with a lot of variety. I never know who will walk through the door.

"I have a lot of job satisfaction and particularly enjoy being able to see things through from the beginning to the end.  It's nice to know that I have helped someone and it really feels good when someone thanks me for what I have done.

"When I first joined, I had been unemployed for a long time and was given a chance to turn everything around and got my self respect back.

"I had no computer skills, but was given IT training and developed my customer care skills through on-the-job training. There is always the chance to expand your abilities here and my confidence has really grown.

"Both St Thomas' and Guy's are very accessible by transport and near places such as the Old Vic Theatre, IMAX cinema and Borough Market, which is great."
