The Union Flag being projected onto the Houses of Parliament
To celebrate a summer like no other, the Mayor of London has set up a series of projectors alongside the Thames to cast London 2012 Games themed images across the whole south façade of the Houses of Parliament in a dramatic display.
The images will be easily seen by the public along the Thames and will be projected throughout the Olympic and Paralympic period across the houses of Parliament, coming on each evening at 9.30pm, and at 8pm during the Paralympics.
The projections were officially launched on Friday (27 July), and were switched on by a young patient from the Evelina Children’s Hospital, Luci-Claire, amidst a crowd of supporters, coinciding appropriately with the London 2012 Opening Ceremony. “I feel very privileged to have been chosen to turn on the lights,” said Luci. “There are so many people they could have chosen from, so I feel very lucky.” Luci’s mum, Julie, added that they: “really appreciate the quality of care that Luci has received, it has been fantastic.”
The projections will run to music which will be heard along the Southbank, and will include iconic sporting images, images representing changes in London since London 1948 and a selection of London 2012 images.
The London 2012 marquee based at St Thomas' Hospital provides a perfect venue to view the projections in the evening. As well as being available for staff to enjoy during their breaks, the marquee is also available for exclusive hire by staff and external companies - and guests can push the 'big red button' to turn on the projections.

The projections are part of a series of spectacular sights that are transforming some of London’s most iconic landmarks throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These offer great photo opportunities across the city and including giant Olympic rings floating along the Thames and hanging from Tower Bridge. Find out more at www.molpresents.com/snaps.
