The specialist child health service at the Mary Sheridan Centre for Child Health showcased their excellent work this week with a visit from the Department of Education.
Shirley Trundle, Director of Families is visiting the service to find out more about their work with vulnerable children in Lambeth. The service is recognised as a leading local authority in England for children’s services.
Shirley is spending time with front line health and social care staff to find out how recent government initiatives could impact on families and professionals. These include proposed changes to adoption and family court proceedings.
The community child health service includes specialist teams who work with children who are in foster care, children with disabilities and advise on safeguarding issues. They work alongside the local authority to ensure that the children achieve their full potential in terms of health. The teams include speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurse specialists and community pediatricians.
Alison Barnwell, lead consultant for safeguarding, said: “All our dedicated staff at the Mary Sheridan Centre work alongside schools and social workers to make sure that children in Lambeth are safe and, that they and their families get the extra support that they need.
“It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to highlight the good work that we are doing and to show that partnerships between those looking after the best interests of children can work very well.”
