Dr Claire Lemer
Dr Claire Lemer, a consultant at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, has been awarded a British Empire Medal by the Queen for services to children’s health.
Claire was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, announced last week. She says: “This was a huge surprise, given how many wonderful things so many people do to improve child health. Success is about team work and I couldn’t be where I am today without my colleagues.”
Last year, Claire’s expertise was recognised by England’s Chief Medical Officer, Sally Davies, who approached Claire for help on an annual report about the health of children in the UK. This report is being used by the government and charities to influence policies to improve the health of our children.
Claire is currently working on a project at Evelina London to ensure GPs, hospitals, schools and social care services all work together to offer children the best possible care.
Governors’ honours
Governor Denise Lievesley was recognised with a CBE for her services to social science. Denise is a Professor of Statistics and Head of School of Social Science and Public Policy at King's College London.
The Waterloo Action Centre - the brainchild of governor Jenny Stiles - received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. The Centre offers services to the local community including an advice service in five languages, legal advice, activities specifically for older people, and leisure and learning activities.
