Adam Fox

An allergy specialist at Guy's and St Thomas' has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to patient care and medical education.

Dr Adam Fox, who is a consultant children’s allergist and Clinical Director of Genetics, Rheumatology, Infection, Dermatology and Allergy (GRIDA), has won the prestigious British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology’s William Frankland Award.

Dr Fox says: “I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award.

"There have been many exciting developments in the care of children with allergic disease in recent years. The Trust has been at the forefront of many of these advances and I’m delighted to have been part of this fantastic work.”

Dr Fox has made a major contribution to the children's allergy service since it was established in 2006. Alongside the team of children’s allergy experts, he has helped to develop the service into the largest of its kind in Europe, seeing around 5000 children each year.

Although he wrote his doctoral thesis on peanut allergy, Dr Fox has researched and treated a wide variety of allergies. His successful treatment of a child with severe dog allergy helped to raise the national profile of the condition when it was featured on the BBC’s Horizon programme in 2010.

In addition to his work with children, Dr Fox has promoted allergy awareness in medical education and he is director of the King’s College London Allergy Academy.

The William Frankland Award is one of the most esteemed honours in the field of allergy care. Named after the pioneering British immunologist who invented the pollen count scale, the award is given in recognition of an outstanding contribution to clinical allergy that goes over and above everyday duties.
