Princess Royal visits new children's hospital

HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of the Evelina Children’s Hospital Appeal, recently visited the construction site of the new hospital.

She met Trust staff including Dr Frances Flinter, Clinical Director for children’s services and genetics, and Alastair Gourlay, Senior Project Manager with responsibility for the new hospital, as well as architect Sir Michael Hopkins.

The royal guest also had an opportunity to see various different areas of the new hospital during a tour of the building, including the outpatients department, the paediatric intensive care unit and the area where imaging services will be based.

The Evelina Appeal is now more than halfway towards its target of raising £10 million for medical equipment and furnishings before the new children’s hospital opens this autumn – the latest fundraising total is £5.5 million.

This magnificent fundraising effort has been boosted by not only royal patronage but also the support of generous donors and the efforts of many Trust staff who have got involved.

The ‘Quids for Kids’ fundraising campaign run by our local newspaper the South London Press helped raise more than £17,000 for the Appeal – enough money to buy a monitor for the new hospital’s hi-tech paediatric intensive care unit.
