Biography
- Qualified and trained in general medicine in London
- MRC-funded research in biochemical and clinical aspects of muscle disease
- Trained in geriatric medicine at Hammersmith Hospital
- Appointed consultant at Guy's and St Thomas' (1984)
- Trust clinical director for elderly medicine (1987-1992), and for acute and general medicine and elderly care (1992-2000)
- An advisor nationally and locally to the NHS on various aspects of older peoples' services, including the NSF for Older People
- Currently part-time specialist clinical advisor and acting national clinical director for older people at the Department of Health.
- Soon to become president-elect of the British Geriatrics Society
- Senior research fellow at King's College London Institute of Gerontology, co-leading the Gerontology MSc
