Biography
Mark Mencias (RGN) is our research practitioner for the clinical genetics team. Mark is a registered (adult) nurse who has been in the profession for 9 years working in various specialties such as surgery, intensive care, haematology and oncology. He previously facilitated clinical trials in another NHS trust.
He is a CRN Research Practitioner working in a cross site role working at both St. George's Hospital and Guy's Hospital which has encouraged collaborative working.
His main responsibilities are:
- Ensuring the well-being of study participants as the primary concern of research practice.
- Organise and manage defined clinical research procedures such as identification of suitable participants to clinical research, inviting and consenting patients to clinical research, collection of research samples, collection and recording of clinical research data.
- Conduct research studies in strict accordance with the protocol as well as local and international standards.
- Supporting the delivery and development of NIHR research portfolio such as conducting feasibility assessments of proposed studies, recruiting to time and target, obtaining relevant NHS permissions for research studies, as well as data monitoring and reporting.
- Act as a resource to research participants, their families & staff from the clinical area.
