If you have a blood condition and are pregnant, or planning to get pregnant, you might be seen in any of the clinics below, which are all held in Haematology 2. 

• Sickle cell clinic

  When: Thursday mornings

  This clinic is run by Dr Susan Robinson and Dr Jo Howard with Mr Eugene Oteng-Ntim, an obstetric consultant.

• Myeloproliferative disease clinic

  When: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings

  This clinic is run by Professor Claire Harrison and Dr Susan Robinson together with the high risk pregnancy clinic run by Dr Nelson-Piercy and Dr Susan Bewley. You will be offered pre-conception counselling and pregnancy planning. 

• General obstetric haematology clinic

  When: Thursday mornings

  You will be seen in this clinic if you have general haematology problems, e.g. anaemia or low platelets in pregnancy.

There are increased risks of thrombosis and an association of thrombophilia with pregnancy loss. Ideally, all women should be seen before they become pregnant, to produce a plan of management in their pregnancy.

Women with Antiphospholipid syndrome are seen by Professor Hunt, Dr Susan Robinson and Professor Nelson Piercy. Women who have had thrombosis in the past, or have been diagnosed with a genetic thrombophilia (e.g. antithrombin deficiency) are seen by Dr Susan Robinson in pregnancy.
