Haemophilia clinical services

 

Haemophilia services form an integral part of the comprehensive care centre based on the 1st floor, North Wing at St Thomas’ Hospital. The services have been designed to minimise hospital visits, and provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ service for the following:

    • investigation of acquired and inherited bleeding disorders
    • family/genetic studies
    • genetic counselling
    • community nursing support
    • physiotherapy services
    • active encouragement of self-management and an active lifestyle
    • educational support
    • paediatric clinics
    • orthopaedic clinics
    • specialist consultations for complex, general and orthopaedic surgical procedures
    • HIV clinics
    • hepatology clinics
    • combined haemophilia/HIV/hepatology clinics
    • aromatherapy
    • counselling by psychologists
    • thrombophilia services 
    • investigation of acquired and inherited disorders
    • peri-operative advice and management
    • advice on management of thrombosis and pregnancy
    • advice on hormone replacement/oral contraception
    • advice about travel
    • women's bleeding clinics (in collaboration with the gynaecology service).

Anticoagulation services

The anticoagulation clinic based at Guy’s provides the following services:

  • assessment by specialist physician
  • nurse/pharmacist led clinics
  • follow-up ambulatory deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism care
  • genetic testing and counselling
  • offer of screening for acquired or inherited risks of thrombosis, to all patients with thromboembolic disease
  • discharge assessment by consultant physician
  • advice on peri-operative anticoagulation management syndrome
  • bridging clinic
  • advice on post thrombotic syndrome 
  • ambulatory deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism service
  • new anticoagulation therapy.
