Who can become a member?
Membership is open to women who have had a baby at St Thomas’ Hospital.
If you have had a baby at St Thomas’ within the last 2 years, then you are more than welcome to join our vibrant committee as a user member. The term “user member” is used to refer to someone with the remit to put forward the views of service users. This means that local women of child bearing age, pregnant women and their partners, parents of a baby, potential users and women who have had a baby and may have subsequent children (DOH 2006).
As well as women who have their babies at St Thomas’, membership of the MSLC includes midwives, consultants, GPs, health visitors and senior staff from Guy’s and St Thomas’.
What happens at the MSLC meetings?
Meetings are held bi-monthly.
At meetings we will give you an update on maternity services at St Thomas’ Hospital and any proposed changes.
We are keen to receive feedback from women who have had their babies at St Thomas’ and listen to your ideas and views. Your views will help us to shape services and develop policies and guidelines so that we can improve our care provision and meet the needs of women within the local community.
Some of the topics discussed at recent meetings have included patient information on Patient Line, breast feeding facts and statistic and postnatal care. Members of the maternity services liaison committee have made significant contribution to the content of the maternity services leaflets offering that all important patient perspective.
