Fibromyalgia clinic

What to expect from your appointment

This clinic offers a one stop assessment for patients who have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. We are unable to provide follow up appointments in this clinic and in most cases we do not perform investigations. The aim of this clinic is to provide management advice appropriate to the individual at the time. If you require a second opinion on diagnosis this is best provided in a general rheumatology service.

Before your appointment

Before the appointment we ask that you complete questionnaires which give us some idea of the symptoms you have and your difficulties with function. There are no right or wrong answers and they are simply a guide for us.

About your appointment

You will have individual appointments with the consultant rheumatologist, physiotherapist and  clinical psychologist. All the members of the team are specialists in fibromyalgia. Each appointment will take around 30 minutes so you should allow at least 90 minutes for the clinic visit.

The focus of the appointment is geared to the needs of the individual patient. We have a holistic approach and aim to provide you with greater understanding of the condition and recommendations for treatment and self-management appropriate to you and based on the current available evidence.

After your appointment

After the clinic appointment, you and your GP should receive copies of the clinic letter summarising what was discussed at the appointment and providing recommendations for treatment. You should make an appointment with your GP to arrange onward referrals and medication as appropriate.
