Caring for your skin after treatment

Sculptra treatment for people with lipoatrophy and HIV

Caring for your skin will help with the overall result of treatment and minimise the risk of side effects.

Please follow this guidance after your treatment:

  • keep the treated area clean and dry
  • use an ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth a few minutes at a time for tenderness, discomfort, swelling or bruising
  • massage the areas that were treated for 5 minutes, twice a day
  • use sun protection of SPF30 or higher when outside
  • drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated

  • do not touch the treated area for up to 12 hours after treatment
  • do not use any creams, other than any you were told to use by the doctor
  • do not use creams or gels containing vitamin A (Retin-A, retinoids or retinol) while you are having a course of treatment
  • do not use makeup for 12 hours after treatment (if you have to use makeup, do not use powder)
  • do not expose your face to excessive sun or UV light
