Commercial services

We are engaged in a wide range of commercial ventures that support the work of the Trust, enabling us to innovate and also to generate income that is reinvested in services for NHS patients.

Our commercial services team oversees a broad portfolio that includes:

Guy's and St Thomas' Consulting

Guy's and St Thomas' Consulting offers support to drive performance improvement and change programmes, strategic planning, research and education. Management consultancy is available in the UK and internationally covering a wide range of healthcare-related disciplines from procurement and HR services to clinical pathway redesign, governance and regulatory systems.

Transforming the delivery of patient care – Essentia Trading

The Trust has a wholly-owned subsidiary, Essentia Trading, which offers specialist healthcare consultancy focussed on design, build and maintains innovative healthcare infrastructure and technology, transforming the way that patient care is delivered.

Essentia Trading works with a wide range of health and social care organisations in the UK, and also internationally.

Achievements range from the successful delivery of the new £160 million Cancer Centre at Guy's to sustainability projects including energy efficiency and waste and water management.

Through our in-house Essentia services we have developed a pioneering apprenticeship programme, and also provide direct management of telecoms, security and catering services on behalf of other NHS organisations.

Developing innovative commercial partnerships

Other innovative commercial partnerships range from our pathology joint venture Viapath, in conjunction with King's College NHS Foundation Trust and Serco, to our relationship with HCA International, who will lease five floors of the Cancer Centre at Guy's.
