Surgeons with the Da Vinci robot

Doctors and nurses from our urology department hosted the 3 day European Robotic Urology Symposium last week. It was the largest conference held to date, attracting over 800 doctors and nurses from across Europe.

Live robotic surgery was streamed from Guy’s Hospital theatres to the Park Plaza on Westminster Bridge, where the conference was held. Delegates watched the latest techniques in robotic surgery performed by leading European surgeons, including surgeons Mr Prokar Dasgupta and Mr Ben Challacombe from Guy’s and St Thomas’ urology team.

For the first time, a day was dedicated solely to nurses. Guy’s and St Thomas’ Prostate Cancer Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Netty Kinsella, hosted the  day to teach other nurses how to prepare the robot for surgery, the psychological impact of robotic surgery, pain management, and the patient experience.
