Midwives shortlisted for top national award

Congratulations to the Valley Team midwives who were shortlisted at last night’s Royal College of Midwives (RCM) annual midwifery awards.

The team – Juliet May, Katie Arneil, Celine Walters, Amy Davies, Beth Connelly, Laura Bridle and Biz Boyle – were one of three in the UK to be shortlisted for a ‘Promoting Normal Birth’ award.

Valley Team midwives offer care before, during, and after birth, including home births.

“Around two-thirds of the births that we look after are ‘normal’ births, which is much higher than the national average of 42%,” says Laura. “We feel this is due to the high standard of care provided by our team.”

Cathy Warwick, chief executive of the RCM, said: “This year we have had a record number of entries for our awards and the standard has been incredibly high, so I congratulate the team.”

“It is so important that midwives and maternity services keep thinking about the services they offer and continue to innovate, as this team has done, so that they can give the most up to date and beneficial care for women, their babies and their families.”
