James and Nathalie Klempster, first-time parents of baby Charlotte who was born yesterday weighing 9lbs 11oz, said: “The NHS is getting a bit of stick at the moment, but the team at St Thomas’ have been amazing. The level of dedication, professionalism and compassion couldn’t have been better. It’s a day that will go down in history and it’s nice to be a small part of that.”

Lynne Pacanowski, Director of Midwifery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Yesterday was a wonderful, exciting, and I’m sure very tiring day for the new parents in our maternity unit.

“There’s been a real buzz around the department for the past few weeks with people knowing that the royal baby was due anytime.

“We’ve been very lucky to welcome 22 healthy and happy babies into the world yesterday to share their birthday with the future King, they are all doing really well.”
