Midwives from St Thomas’ Hospital feature in the first episode of a new primetime TV documentary series, Keeping Britain Safe 24/7, to be screened at 8.30pm on BBC1 tonight (Thursday 5 December).

Presenter Julia Bradbury and a BBC film crew visited our Maternity Unit during the busiest week of the year, in September.

Lynne Pacanowski, Director of Midwifery, says: “We usually have a baby boom in autumn, so we carefully plan to make sure we have enough staff to look after our mums-to-be.

“We’re really proud of our midwives and hope Julia enjoyed her time with them. We have the best job in the world, it’s such a privilege to be part of the special moment when a baby is born.”

Keeping Britain Safe 24/7 follows Britain’s emergency and specialist frontline teams, as they deal with the particular challenges of each season.

Tonight’s episode focuses on autumn and is the TV ‘pick of the day’ in the Daily Telegraph, The Sun, and The Times.
