The Ministry of Defence recognised the support that Guy’s and St Thomas’ gives to the UK’s armed forces with a prestigious award at a ceremony at St Katherine’s Dock on Thursday 27 November.

The Trust received the Silver Award in the Employer Recognition Scheme, which recognises UK employers for their support and commitment towards the defence sector. At least six army reservists are employed across the Trust and are supported to fulfil their military commitments while working full-time at the Trust.

Chief Executive Ron Kerr attended the ceremony, hosted by the General Officer Commanding London District, Major General Edward Smyth-Osborne, with four Trust reservists - Major Elizabeth Guilfoyle, Flight Sergeant Monica Lyons, Corporal Kayleigh Price and Lt Colonel Marie Richter.

Ron says: “It is a privilege to have been recognised by the Ministry of Defence for the support we offer to our reservist colleagues.

“With more than 13,500 staff across our organisation, we cherish the skills and talents that individuals can bring. It’s an honour to employ members of the army reserves, I’m in no doubt that their dedication and commitment inspires their colleagues and patients on a daily basis.”

The Employer Recognition Scheme was launched by the Prime Minister David Cameron in July. A total of 18 companies and organisations from London were presented with the Silver Award for demonstrating and communicating support towards the armed forces.
