Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) chiefs paid a visit to the Birth Centre and Postnatal wards at St Thomas’ on Friday 30 May to gain an insight into how a busy maternity service is run.

Chief Executive Jackie Smith, Chair Mark Addison, and Midwifery Committee Chair Ann Wright learned about the range of maternity services we offer, the difficult situations our staff can face while caring for women, and clinical governance.

Mark Addison says: “We had a great day. It was terrific to see this institution at work.”

Lynne Pacanowski, Director of Midwifery at Guy’s and St Thomas’, says: “We’re really pleased that the NMC team chose to visit St Thomas’. We were able to share our challenges and successes with them.

“The visit also gave us the opportunity to discuss the proposals they are currently consulting on that will affect our staff, such as a change in the way nurses and midwives renew their registrations so that they can continue working.”
