Charity’s annual report highlights innovation with the Trust

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity has released its annual report 2014/15, which showcases how it works with the Trust to drive innovation in health and care across our hospitals and communities.

The year 2014/15 was a significant period in the Charity’s efforts to transform health and care in Lambeth and Southwark.

In the last financial year, the Charity contributed £28.1 million in funding towards tackling health and care issues locally, supporting hundreds of new ideas. It ended the year with strong finances and a better understanding of the difference it helps make locally with partners including the Trust.

In that period, the Charity supported the Trust with £12.5 million and the organisations worked together in many ways:

-          The Charity awarded the Trust 12 grants worth £8.9 million from its Health Innovation Fund to support innovative projects including an in-house 3D printing facility and a ground-breaking arts programme for St Thomas’ new Emergency Floor

-          The organisations jointly launched the Bright Ideas Fund to invest in new ideas with commercial potential – from new medical devices to eLearning programmes

-          The Charity handled £2.6 million in public donations made to Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Evelina London, as well as the £3.4 million that went from special purpose funds to support work across the Trust

-          The Charity and the Trust worked together to transform care and the local healthcare system through projects like the Cancer Centre at Guy’s, Southwark and Lambeth Integrated Care (SLIC) and Toheti

-          Both continued to embed arts as a way to improve health and wellbeing, with the ongoing programme of music and other live performances by Breathe

-          The Charity supported a programme of benefits to keep staff healthy and well, and made 36 awards for staff professional development.

Over the past three years, the Charity has supported the Trust with almost £60 million.
