Infection prevention experts say ‘Love your lines’

Experts at Evelina London Children’s Hospital are running a week of activities designed to raise awareness of infection prevention and control with staff and families.

With the theme of ‘Love your lines’, the week has a particular focus on taking care of invasive devices such as intravenous lines that deliver life-saving treatments to patients but need to be managed properly to minimise the risk of infection.

Shona Perkins, Evelina London’s lead nurse for infection prevention and control, says: “As part of our commitment to providing top quality patient care, we’re determined to raise awareness with staff, patients and their families, of what we can all do to prevent infections occurring.

“Intravenous lines are regularly used to provide potentially life-saving treatment to patients. It’s crucial that staff are confident in knowing how they can prevent infections while using intravenous equipment safely.”

The infection prevention and control team are providing information and advice at stalls set up in the Evelina London atrium and running from Tuesday 16 to Thursday 18 February 11am-3pm.

The week will also include events in Evelina London’s neonatal unit and the launch of a new e-learning package applying intravenous lines in children.
