Nursing team

Colin Evans

  Colin Evans, cardiac genetics nurse

Job title: cardiac genetics nurse

Biography: Colin has worked in cardiology and stroke services since qualifying in 2001. He worked for nine years on acute cardiology wards across two large teaching hospitals in Central London. Within that period he gained experience of inherited cardiac conditions whilst working for the British Heart Foundation Genetic Information Service. He also has experience of managing and specialist nursing within a hyper acute stroke unit. Prior to his current role, he worked as a nurse case manager in structural heart conditions at St Thomas’ Hospital.

Laura Monje-Garcia

  Laura Monje-Garcia, cardiac genetics nurse specialist

Job title: cardiac genetics nurse

Biography: Laura is a cardiac genetics nurse working at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. She is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery council and meets the graduate basis for chartered membership of the British psychological society. She is also a general member of the division of health psychology.     

Education and training: Postgraduate Diploma in Genomic Medicine, Cambridge University 2017; MSc Health Psychology, University of Surrey 2015; BSc Honours Psychology, University of Surrey, Roehampton 2007; Dip in HE Adult Nursing, Middlesex University 2003

Specialist interests: inherited cardiac conditions, genetics, emotional adjustment to chronic conditions, health psychology, nursing research

Reaserch interests: psychological experience of living with inherited cardiac conditions, undergoing genetic testing, and living with a genetic diagnosis, nursing and health psychology

Soraya Nuthoo

  Soraya Nuthoo, cardiac genetics nurse

Job title: cardiac genetics nurse

Biography: Soraya is a cardiac genetic nurse and has extensive experience in cardiology. She has worked at the Brompton Hospital on the medical, surgical wards and high dependency units. She has experience in scheduling department and discharging complex patients. She has previously worked as a clinical nurse specialist in the inherited cardiac conditions and arrhythmia at Hammersmith Hospital. Soraya is currently setting up genetic clinics across south east London and in the Kent area.

Alison Walton

  Alison Walton, cardiac genetics nurse

Job title: cardiac genetics nurse

Biography: Alison originally qualified in adult nursing and started her career in general cardiology and coronary care. She then transitioned to work in adult intensive care units before transferring to work in children's cardiac intensive care (CICU) in Great Ormond Street in 2012. During her time at Great Ormond Street she developed an interest in familial cardiomyopathies and inherited arrhythmias. After six years in CICU she joined the inherited cardiac conditions team in March 2018. Alison has a passion for family-centred holistic cardiac care.     

Education and training: MA English Literature, Aberdeen University; PgDip Adult Nursing, Dundee University; BSc Children’s Nursing, London Southbank University; PgDip Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing, London Southbank University.

Specialist interests: psycho-social implications of inherited cardiac disease in families and adolescent transition within ICC.

Hannah Foster

  Hannah Foster, BHF patient pathway coordinator

Job title: BHF patient pathway coordinator

Biography: Hannah has worked for Guy’s and St Thomas’ for over three years in a number of different administrative roles. She joined the inherited cardiac conditions team as the BHF patient pathway coordinator in October 2017 and helps to provide administrative support for the cardiac genetics nurses.
