How to make a referral

GP referrals are only accepted from these clinical commissioning groups (CCGs):

  • NHS Lambeth CCG
  • NHS Southwark CCG
  • NHS Bexley CCG
  • NHS Bromley CCG
  • NHS Lewisham CCG
  • NHS Greenwich CCG (now South East London CCG)
  • NHS Central London (Westminster) CCG (under North West London CCG from April 2021)

All GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral service (formerly Choose and Book).

Referrals sent to the nhs.net mailbox or by post from GPs will not be processed.

Tertiary referrals can be emailed to gst-tr.PainReferralsandAdmin@nhs.net.

Referrals are screened by a consultant doctor to determine suitability.

We now have a fast-track cluster headache clinic. For more information please read the referral information below.

  • Referrals for the fast-track cluster headache clinic

This fortnightly clinic is for patients with a confirmed or probable diagnosis of cluster headache who are currently in bout (or expecting to be very soon).

If the patient is already under the care of a headache specialist elsewhere, they can only be referred to our fast-track clinic if they are unable to get an appointment to see their usual consultant in the next month.

We will see them for a one-off appointment to provide interim advice or treatment until they can see their usual headache specialist.

To refer to our fast-track cluster headache clinic:

Our nurse specialist will contact the patient and, if appropriate, the patient will be offered an appointment within 2 weeks.
