Guy’s and St Thomas’ is smoke-free. Patients, visitors and staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on our hospital and community premises including the grounds and gardens.

We are asking all of our visitors to support our smoke-free initiative by remembering not to smoke in our grounds. This is a positive step forward to a better healthcare environment for our patients and we want you to be an active part of it.

Why have we done this?

This is to ensure that we promote healthy behaviours and minimise the risk of harm to others from passive smoking.

This new policy is in line with The Health Act (2006) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance on smoking in secondary care services (2013).

Smoking is the main cause of preventable illness and premature death in England. It causes a wide range of diseases and medical conditions, including cancers, respiratory diseases, coronary heart disease, impotence and infertility.

Please see our FAQs (Word 82Kb) for more information.
