London’s only seven-days-a-week sexual health centre shared the less romantic side of Valentine’s Day as it opened its doors for a live Twitter event.

More than 36 patients were treated at Burrell Street in the first two hours after it opened on Friday 14 February, while the Trust’s 3,600 Twitter followers gained an insight into how the service works.

Tweets showed a couple going for a sexually transmitted infection check-up together, a patient having a rapid HIV test with results available in just 60 seconds, and staff diagnosing infections in the in-house lab.

Patients at Burrell Street shared comments about their experience on anonymous feedback cards.

One patient said: “Super fast and super friendly staff. Really felt comfortable in their hands, thank you.” Another added: “Very helpful, supportive and discreet. Nothing to fear.”

Dr Anatole Menon-Johansson, consultant and clinical lead for sexual health at Guy’s and St Thomas’, says: “We have a fantastic team of experts at Burrell Street and some of the best facilities in Europe. We hope that this live Twitter event will help diminish the stigma around sexual health in our local community and allow people to view it as something as routine as visiting the dentist or having their eyes tested.”
