New garden at Guy's Hospital

Patients, visitors and staff can now enjoy the delights of a brand new public garden on the Guy’s Hospital site.

The courtyard garden is a calm and inviting space which has been created by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.

David Renton, the Charity’s Finance and Development Director, explains: “We spent the last two summers transforming Iris Brook House and Orchard Lisle House at Guy’s into modern accommodation for King’s College London students.

“The courtyard space between the buildings was walled in and run down so we decided to open it up and create an additional green space for everyone to use.

“The garden has already become a destination and meeting points on sunny days, which is lovely to see.”

Verde Landscape Design came up with the circular design and inspired the use of certain types of hedges, trees and hard surfaces so the garden is attractive but easy to maintain.

David Renton says: “We are particularly keen that patients and their visitors and relatives, as well as staff and students, get to hear about the new garden at Guy’s because it is an easily accessible spot for them to enjoy a quiet moment.”

See the Guy’s Hospital map on our website for the exact location of this green oasis – the new garden is next to Orchard Lisle House on the map.
