People with brain injuries and neurological problems can now receive intensive rehabilitation and support at the Pulross Centre in Brixton.

A total of six neuro-rehabilitation beds will be open by the end of October to help Lambeth and Southwark residents with neurological conditions like brain injury, multiple scerosis and spinal cord injuries to become more independent following illness or surgery.

The first patient was treated when the new neuro-rehabilitation centre opened today (Monday 17 October).

The centre will work in partnership with King’s College Hospital who opened a neuro-rehabilitation specialist unit at Orpington Hospital in July. The aim is to improve services for people with neurological problems across south east London by providing joined-up care.

Patients at the Pulross Centre will receive intensive rehabilitation and the support of a team including doctors, nurses, therapists, psychologists and a dietitian for a period of between six and 12 weeks.

Heather Campbell, Clinical Lead and Head of the Neuro-rehabilitation Service at Guy's and St Thomas', says: “Now local people can receive specialist neuro-rehabilitation in a centre closer to home.

“Our expert team will work together to ensure people receive the best care and support so that they can return home and start rebuilding their lives.”
