Harry Potter star brings magic to Low Vision Day at St Thomas'

Star of stage and screen, Guy Henry, will be sprinkling his magic when he opens St Thomas’ Hospital’s Low Vision Day event on Saturday 21 October at 12 noon in Shepherd Hall.

The actor, best known for his roles as Pius Thicknesse, the Last Minister for Magic in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Henrik Hanssen in Holby City, is to open the annual event.

Low Vision Day raises awareness of the support available to people who have low vision, even with the aid of glasses, contact lenses or surgery.

Donna Grant, 56, a receptionist from Walworth, was born with cone dystrophy (which causes sight loss and colour blindness) and attends the Low Vision Clinic at St Thomas’.

She says: “I go to Low Vision Day every year. There’s always something new that comes out that can help like the monocular (a telescope used to magnify images of distant objects).

Now I can recognise the number of the bus before it reaches the bus stop! At another Low Vision event I found out about the VIP singers, a choir for people with sight loss, and now I go along most Saturdays.”
