How to refer a patient
Most referrals for echocardiography and exercise-testing come from within the hospital. These are triaged into urgent and non-urgent inpatient and outpatient studies and the timing and appropriateness of a request discussed by one of three triaging consultants.
Open access ECG, exercise-testing and 24 hour ECG and blood pressure monitoring are available for general practitioners. All open access tests should be requested using a paper-form.
A walk-in service for 12-lead ECGs is available, but appointments for the other tests need to be made and requests should be sent to the cardiac offices.
Transoesophageal echocardiogram referrals
The indication and timing of trasnoesophageal echocardiograms should be discussed with one of the specialist consultants. Referrals by post or email are co-ordinated by Dr John Chambers.
Transoesophageal studies: call the echocardiography department.
