Our stress echocardiography service helps to diagnose coronary artery disease in patients who may not be able to perform a standard treadmill exercise test. Our service
Initial investigations for coronary artery disease usually involve stress testing. A number of patients may not be able to perform a standard treadmill exercise test because of mobility or other problems. In these patients, stress echocardiography is an appropriate alternative.
The investigation can also be used to guide treatment in patients with known coronary artery disease and to assess risks for patients who have been recommended non-cardiac surgery.
About coronary artery disease
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a term to describe what happens when your heart's blood supply is blocked or interrupted by a build-up of fatty substances in your heart's arteries.
It is a common cause of chest pain and breathlessness, particularly on exertion, though there are other cardiac causes.
