Nicholas Barrett
Consultant in critical care and clinical lead for critical care
Biography
Nicholas Barrett is a consultant in critical care medicine at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
He trained in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
He is an honorary senior lecturer at King's College London.
He leads the intensive care unit at Guy's and St Thomas' and has interests in:
- severe cardiorespiratory failure
- extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
- extracorporeal carbion dioxide removal (ECCO2R)
He is a specialist advisor to:
- National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
- Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB)
He is chair of EuroELSO, the organisation supporting the development of ECMO in Europe and provides advice to ECMO programmes around the world.
