This presentation will explore Alzheimer's disease and dementia across the life course, including risk factors, causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and assessment. Attendees will gain an understanding of current approaches to treatment and support in the early, middle, and later stages of dementia, as well as advanced care planning and future care considerations.

This session will cover:

• understanding Alzheimer's disease and other dementias
• risk factors, causes, and the clinical picture
• early diagnosis and assessment
• treatment and support through the different stages of dementia
• living well with dementia
• advanced care planning, legal considerations, and emerging discussions around assisted dying
• the role of specialist dementia services, including the SLiMS service and how members of the public can access support and assessment
• Dementia Assessment and Diagnosis (DAD) teams working across acute hospitals, including King's College Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas'
• a brief look at the local history of dementia services
• academic innovation, research, and future service development, including collaborative work across South East London and partnerships with King's Health Partners
• future visioning for dementia care and services

This talk will provide practical information for people living with dementia, carers, families, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in the future of dementia care and support.
