A traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture service is helping people living in chronic pain to better health. A survey of 400 patients at the Gateway Clinics Acupuncture Service has shown that 96% of clients with chronic long term conditions feel that their health improved moderately or significantly as a result of the care they received.

Established in 1992, the service is the only clinic of its kind  in the UK treating patients experiencing chronic pain: musculo-skeletal and neurological, people with severe headaches and migraines and HIV patients.

The team of 6 specialist acupuncturists - who offer around 12,000 treatments a year - work alongside physiotherapists, occupational health, neurologists and podiatrists to help patients manage their pain. The service also helps people stop smoking, manage addictions and to cope with anxiety.

Dominique Joire, service manager, a specialist acupuncturist for 17 years said: “Our service offers patients more options in terms of managing their long term conditions. We’re delighted that so many of our clients feel that they are benefiting from the expert care that our clinic is able to provide.”

Referral to the service is through a GP in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. For more information email [email protected] or call 020 3049 6930.
