Aston Martin Formula One Team makes pit stop at Evelina London Children’s Hospital

Evelina London patient Jacob, 5, was one of the patients and staff thrilled by the visit from Aston Martin.
The Aston Martin Formula One Team brought smiles and excitement to Evelina London Children’s Hospital as part of their annual ‘Make a Mark’ tour of children’s hospitals across the country.
The visit gave the patients, parents and staff the opportunity to have their picture taken with a full-sized Formula One car, meet a Formula One driver and take part in a competition to design their own personal driving suit. The winner, drawn from all the hospitals the team have visited, will have their suit custom made for them by Aston Martin.
During the visit, Aston Martin F1 development driver Jessica Hawkins toured the hospital, chatted with children about racing, answered questions about life behind the wheel, and offered words of encouragement to young fans.
Visits such as this one are hosted by Evelina London’s incredible play specialists. The team, generously supported by Evelina London Children’s Charity, help to distract and comfort children in hospital through the power of play.
Sue Pruden, therapeutic play service manager for Evelina London Children's Hospital, said:
“Being in hospital, away from familiar routines and family and friends can be difficult for patients – whether they are here long term or only for a short time.
“The visit from Aston Martin made such a difference, with so many smiling faces on patients and staff. These kinds of memories help give our children and young people a sense of normality which they don’t usually get, which is something we always appreciate.”
Debbie Wall, ESG Director, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team said:
“We were thrilled to bring the excitement of Formula One to Evelina London Children's Hospital for the first time, giving patients, families, and staff the chance to see an Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team replica car up close and meet our Head of F1 Academy and Driver Ambassador, Jessica Hawkins.
“As a part of our Make A Mark strategy, giving back to the community is at the heart of our team’s values. We’re proud to be touring hospitals across the UK for a second time, creating unforgettable memories nationwide.”
These events provide unforgettable experiences for children and their families facing health challenges, creating special moments which go beyond medical care. The visit came as the hospital celebrated 20 years since opening its doors on Lambeth Palace Road, delivering specialist care to babies, children, young people, and their families across London, southeast England and further afield.
