Baroness Lawrence opens family fun day for kidney patients
Tuesday 1 September 2015
Baroness Lawrence has expressed her support for the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Kidney Patients’ Association and the importance of raising awareness about kidney disease while opening a picnic and family fun day event.
Held at the King’s College sports ground near Honor Oak, the event was organised by the association as an opportunity for patients, staff, and their families to socialise together.
Entertainment on the day included a five-a-side football match, an egg and spoon race, and a bouncy castle.
Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon says: "I was really pleased to be invited to the Guy's and St Thomas' Kidney Patients' Association picnic. The association carries out important work in supporting those affected by kidney disease and it was great to meet so many patients and their families at the event."
Guy’s and St Thomas’ is a national centre of excellence for the treatment of kidney disease, serving adults and children living in south east London and beyond.
The Kidney Patients’ Association runs social activities in the Trust’s dialysis units, funds televisions and other forms of entertainment for kidney patients, and also supports research into kidney disease.
Sonia Moorhouse, Chair of the Guy's and St Thomas' Kidney Patients’ Association, says: "It was a great honour to have Baroness Lawrence at the event. The association is here to support Guy's and St Thomas' kidney patients and the vital research into kidney treatment that takes place at the Trust. It's wonderful to have Baroness Lawrence involved in our work."
