Patroklos Sesis receiving an award at the World Nutrition Rio 2012 congress in Brazil

Our early years community nutritionist has been recognised by leading world-wide health bodies for his work giving nutritional advice to local families with children under 5.

Nutritionist, Patroklos Sesis, attended the World Nutrition Rio 2012 congress in Brazil, receiving an award for his report about helping families in Lambeth and Southwark make healthy dietary choices.

Patroklos Sesis, who has worked in public health nutrition for six years, visits people with young families in children's centres, parent and toddler groups and community groups. He provides advice on introducing a varied, healthy diet to young children as well as breast feeding and weaning babies. This includes information on choosing healthier foods over processed foods and reducing salt, sugar and fat intake.

Patroklos says: "Parents want to give their children a good start in life but sometimes it's difficult to know what foods are best, especially as they grow and develop."

He says: "As a public health nutritionist I try to help families make better choices about the foods they eat, offering advice on buying healthy foods on a budget and giving them the confidence to prepare nutritional fresh meals at home that the whole family can enjoy."

Patroklos Sesis received a staff development award from Guy's and St Thomas' Charity to attend the congress in Brazil.
