Nursing Times award

Two teams of community nurses who give contraceptive help, sexual health advice and screening to vulnerable local women have been named winners of the Nursing Times ‘Nursing in the community award’.

The Health Inclusion (Three Boroughs Team) and Sexual Health Outreach teams were named winners of the respected award for their partnership work giving contraceptive advice and support to young women who are sex workers and at risk of unplanned pregnancies.

The women are supported by a team that includes clinical nurse specialist Amy Hall, sexual health outreach lead Deborah Clark and nurse practitioner Paulette Ragan, who provide advice from a local hostel in Lambeth.

Eileen Sills said: “Congratulations to the team for their wonderful work helping some of the most vulnerable women in our community. The team make a real difference to the lives of the young women they see in the hostels, supporting them to make healthier lifestyle choices and to think about when to become pregnant. We’re very proud of their excellent work.”

The team won the award from a short list of nine community health services across the UK.
