Guy's and St Thomas' nurses shortlisted for national award

Nurses from Guy’s and St Thomas’ have been recognised for their achievements in this year’s Nursing Times Awards.

As well as a chance to recognise the amazing work of nurses over the last six months, this year marks the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.

Three nurses who have had a huge impact on patients and staff at Guy’s and St Thomas’ have been shortlisted for the Florence Nightingale Nurse of the Year category.

It includes Kimberley St John, who was a palliative care specialist nurse and the Trust’s lead for transforming end-of-life care, who sadly died in July.

Through her Let's Talk campaign, Kimberley aimed to normalise conversations around death and to get more people thinking about and discussing their wishes for the end of their life.

Natalie Grey, a matron in critical care who was redeployed to the NHS Nightingale London, has also been shortlisted, as well as Professor Louise Rose, a Professor of Critical Care Nursing at King’s College London, who helped set up the Life Lines project at Guy’s and St Thomas’.

Life Lines is a specially developed tablet app that has enabled families to be virtually at the bedside of their loved ones in critical care during the pandemic. The technology has also been shortlisted in the Emergency and Critical Care category.

The paediatric spinal surgery team at Evelina London Children’s Hospital have been shortlisted in the Surgical Nursing category for their surgical site infection prevention work.

The Nursing Times Awards recognise those making nursing an innovative, patient-focused and inclusive profession.

Toni Lynch, Interim Chief Nurse at Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many of our staff recognised in this year’s Nursing Times Awards. I am enormously proud of every single one of our hospital and community nurses who have played a crucial role during the pandemic.”

Winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony on Wednesday 18 November.
