Evelina Quality Improvement Conference

Ideas for improving services and ensuring better care for patients have been shared at a conference organised by Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

Jane Cummings, the Chief Nursing Officer for England, and Kate Granger, the hospital consultant, cancer patient, and campaigner for compassionate healthcare, were guest speakers at the Evelina London Quality Improvement Conference 2015.

Discussing her experience of receiving impersonal care, Kate emphasised how the “little things” such as clinicians properly introducing themselves make a big difference to patients.

Everyone at the conference was deeply moved by Kate describing her commitment to improving quality of care in the NHS and the astounding success of her #Hellomynameis campaign.

Sara Hanna, Evelina London Medical Director, said: “The conference celebrated work being done by all our teams to reduce waste and to improve efficiency and clinical outcomes. Kate gave us a poignant reminder that none of this matters as much to our patients and families as being kind to them when they are at their most vulnerable.

“I’m grateful to all the staff at Evelina London who contributed and to our outstanding guest speakers for their inspiring presentations.”

Jane Cummings, Chief Nursing Officer for England, said: “The Evelina London Quality Improvement Conference has been a really positive event.

“The staff are full of ideas for supporting high quality services and their commitment to continually improving patient care is clear to see.”
