New Non-Executive Director

Dr Priya Singh has been appointed to serve as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Due to her role as Executive Director of the Medical Protection Society, as well as a background in general practice, Dr Singh brings substantial medico-legal, risk and strategic experience to her new role, which formally starts on 1 November 2015.

Her career at the Medical Protection Society spanned more than 20 years and she was responsible for the provision of professional services to 290,000 doctors, dentists, and other health professionals around the world.

Dr Singh’s appointment was approved at a full meeting of the Trust’s Council of Governors, which includes elected representatives of patients, members of the public and staff.

Dr Singh says: “The Trust has an excellent reputation as a leader in healthcare, education and research and it is a privilege to be joining the Guy's and St Thomas' team.

"I look forward to using my skills and experience to contribute to the Board of Directors."

Dr Singh replaces Mike Franklin, who has been a Non-Executive Director at the Trust since 2007 and is stepping down after serving two terms on the Board.

Mike Franklin is a former chair of the Community-Police Consultative Group for Lambeth and served as Vice-Chair of the Metropolitan Police Service Racial and Violent Crime Task Force Independent Advisory Group following the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry.

Sir Hugh Taylor, Chairman of the Trust, says: "We are delighted to welcome Priya to the Trust. Her knowledge of primary care, and also her experience in risk management, will strengthen and complement the skills of the Board as a whole.

"I would also like to take this opportunity like to thank Mike Franklin. He has been a powerful voice for the communities we serve locally, and we have benefited greatly from this as well as his wide-ranging professional expertise."
