Guy’s and St Thomas’ Council of Governors has re-appointed John Pelly OBE as a Non-Executive Director on the Trust Board.

He will continue in the role for another two years, having taken up the original appointment in January 2017.

John qualified as an accountant in 1978 and spent the early part of his career in the commercial sector.

He joined the NHS in 1990 as Finance Director of West Lambeth Health Authority, becoming Finance Director of Guy’s and St Thomas’ in 1993.

John was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Trust in 1998, where he remained until 2004 when he took up the position of Chief Executive of Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust in south London.

John was appointed Chief Executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in early 2008, a position he held until his retirement from the NHS in November 2015. John was awarded an OBE in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the NHS.

Sir Hugh Taylor, Chairman of Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “John has made an outstanding contribution as a Non-Executive Director of the Trust and I’m delighted that he will be staying on for another two years.

“He has a wealth of valuable experience, which he has brought to our Board, including in his role as chair of the Audit and Risk Committee.”

John said: “Guy’s and St Thomas’ is a fantastic organisation and it has been a privilege to work with colleagues from across the Trust. I am really looking forward to continuing in my role for another two years”.
