Nurse is shortlisted for Jamaica Times award

Deputy Chief Nurse Yinglen Butt

Deputy Chief Nurse Yinglen Butt has been shortlisted for the highly respected Jamaica Times UK Community Awards in the Nurse of the Year category.

Jamaican-born Yinglen began training as a nurse in 1978, rising through the ranks to become a senior nurse at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in 2011.

Yinglen, who provides professional support and leadership to staff at the Trust, says: “It's such an honour to have been shortlisted for the award.

“We serve a diverse community that includes people from every corner of the globe including my home country, Jamaica. This is why it’s important that there is a diverse workforce at all levels of the organisation.  

“I've seen so many changes since I started in the 70s but what hasn't changed is the human need for caring and my passion to give my very best. Everyone deserves dignified care.”

Yinglen has worked in various roles throughout her career including school nursing and public health. She has also worked for the Department of Health and as Assistant Director for Children's Services in Lambeth.

The winner of the award will be announced on Saturday 21 June.
