Cutting the Olympic-themed cake

Visitors from the Olympic organising committee for Rio 2016 Olympic Games were surprise guests at the Trust last week.

The medical services manager and staff in charge of sports facilities, press and anti-doping for the 2016 games in Brazil were welcomed by our staff who passed on valuable tips for planning for the next Olympic Games. In return, the Rio group gave out limited edition Rio 2016 badges and shared their official video, which explained their ambitious plans for the next games.

The group also visited patients at the Evelina Children’s Hospital and enjoyed a fantastic Olympic-themed cake.

The Rio team said they were inspired by staff and young patients, and were touched to see the smiles on the children’s faces during the visit.

Nicola Grinstead, deputy director of operations, said: “The patients at the Evelina have been following the Games on the television, and are really into it. They know that the next events will be in Brazil and were very excited to meet the people who will be making the Games.”
