An airline-style safety card designed by nurses at Guy’s and St Thomas’ to help patients keep safe has made its way to Australia.

The card, which forms part of the Trust’s award-winning Welcome Pack, is given to all inpatients when they are admitted to hospital.

It uses clear, colourful images to provide patients with information about how to stay safe in hospital by avoiding falls, blood clots and other problems.

Following its launch in 2012, the safety card is being used by NHS trusts across the UK.

Now patients in Australian hospitals are benefiting from the safety card and its accompanying short film.

Denise Kluck, from the Department of Health in Perth, is planning to use the information across Western Australia. She praises the ‘simple and eye-catching’ design.

Dame Eileen Sills, Chief Nurse at Guy’s and St Thomas’ who led the development of the safety card, says: “It’s fantastic that so many hospitals nationally and internationally have adopted the safety card and film.

“We’re proud that these resources are helping to improve the experience of patients at our Trust and further afield.”
