St Thomas' London 2012 marquee opens

Monday 30 July 2012

Evelina patients open the marquee

Patients and staff gathered on Friday (26 July) on the banks of the Thames for the grand opening of Guy's and St Thomas' London 2012 marquee.

The marquee, which sits beside the south bank of the Thames at St Thomas’, will remain there throughout the London 2012 period for use by staff as a venue for celebrations, and as an area to watch the events during lunch breaks thanks to a projector screen. External companies are also able to hire out the venue, which has spectacular views of the Houses of Parliament.

The marquee was officially opened by children from the Evelina Children’s Hospital. The ribbon cutters, Cissy, Isobel and Kelvin, opened the marquee just minutes before the Olympic flame barge and accompanying flotilla passed by St Thomas’ Hospital on its way to Big Ben.

Our young Evelina patients are looking forward to the 2012 Games and won’t let being in hospital stop them enjoying the events. Isobel said: “I’m looking forward to the horse riding, but not the athletics as they’re a bit boring!” And Kelvin is: “looking forward to the table tennis, because it’s cool.”

Our partnership with Innovision has enabled us to provide this fantastic venue, and the events that will take place within it.
