Staff flu vaccination campaign

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Chief Nurse Eileen Sills is leading the call for all Trust staff to have their flu jab to protect themselves and our patients this winter.

Eileen was one of the first staff to get vaccinated after our annual flu immunisation campaign got underway on Monday 13 October – and she will also be helping to vaccinate nurses, doctors and other colleagues herself.

Eileen says: “Our responsibility as healthcare workers is to protect ourselves so we can protect our patients – and we can all do that by having a flu jab.

“By getting vaccinated our staff are not only taking responsibility for their health but also protecting our patients as well as their own friends and family, especially if they have children or care for someone elderly.”

Flu can affect anybody and can cause severe illness, even in healthy people.  In vulnerable people such as children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions, it can lead to severe infections, complications and even death.
