Student midwife at St Thomas' wins top award

Siobhan Pearson has won the Student Midwife Award at this year’s Royal College of Midwifery (RCM) Awards.  

Siobhan is in her third year of studying midwifery at King’s College London, and undertakes her placements in the maternity services at St Thomas’.

The judges commended her commitment, positivity and kindness, and her work to improve the experience of midwifery students studying and working at King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’.

The citation read: “Siobhan has improved student experience exceptionally, using her role in the Nightingale Student Council (NSC) to act as an advocate for the student body within the university and clinical areas. She has been integral in implementing positive change in the curriculum through her NSC role, and has enhanced student experience at ground level. She champions great maternity care in all that she does.”

Lynne Pacanowksi, Director of Midwifery and Head of Gynaecology Nursing at Guy’s and St Thomas’, says: “Congratulations to Siobhan on winning this prestigious national award. It’s really important that our student midwives have a voice and feel able to make improvements in clinical areas – Siobhan is a role model for this in maternity services.”
