Vote for Catherine McKenzie in the I Love My Pharmacist Award

Friday 10 June 2016

A pharmacist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ has been named as a finalist for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s I Love My Pharmacist Award, and now needs your vote to progress to the next stage.

Dr Catherine McKenzie, a consultant pharmacist in critical care, has worked at the Trust for 25 years. Recognised as a pharmacist who goes the extra mile for patients in her local community, Catherine is a regional finalist for London and Kent.

Alongside the team that she leads, Catherine devises patient treatment plans and prescribes medication to ensure the safe and effective use of medications for critically ill patients on the Intensive Care Unit.

Catherine recently led the management of a patient with Down’s syndrome who was severely agitated. Catherine’s determination helped put the patient on the road to recovery and their family were so delighted with the treatment and care received that they raised £1,500 for the Trust’s Critical Care Unit.

Catherine says: “It is a great honour to be selected in the I Love My Pharmacist Award. I am very passionate about critical care. My team are extremely supportive and we’re determined to put the patient at the heart of everything we do.”

Ash Soni, Royal Pharmaceutical Society President, says: “The I Love My Pharmacist Award demonstrates just how vital pharmacists are to every local health service as we showcase and celebrate the many different and vital roles they perform across the NHS.

“Pharmacists help patients take their medicines better, treat minor ailments and make life-saving interventions, as well as offering many other services.

“I’m delighted that Catherine has been selected as a regional finalist and I would now call on all members of the public to visit and vote for their Regional Winner.”

The deadline for voting is 21 July.
