Benedict Phillips
Consultant transplant surgeon
Biography
Benedict Phillips is a consultant transplant surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in kidney transplantation, pancreas transplantation, dialysis access surgery, and organ perfusion technologies.
He completed a PhD in Transplant Immunology at King's College London and holds an MBA focused on healthcare innovation and logistics.
His research interests include machine perfusion, organ utilisation, transplantation outcomes, and medical drone technology. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to national transplant guidelines, and holds leadership roles in quality improvement, organ assessment programmes, and the development of novel technologies to improve patient care.

Research interests
Benedict has research interests in organ preservation, machine perfusion, organ utilisation and transplantation outcomes. He has published extensively in the fields of kidney transplantation and ex vivo normothermic machine perfusion.
He is actively involved in the national NHSBT Assessment and Recovery Centre (ARC) programme, supporting the development and evaluation of organ assessment technologies to increase utilisation of donated organs.
He also has a research interest in healthcare innovation, including the use of drone technology to support medical logistics and transplantation services.
